Governance arrangements for 2017-18

The governing body reconstituted on May 2015.

The Governing Body consists of Headteacher, 1 staff governor, 1 local authority governor, 3 parent governors and 5 co-opted governors. There are currently 2 Governor Vacancies as of September 2017.

From September 2017 the Governing Body have agreed to have 6 meetings across the year, with the Achievement and Resources committees included in the full governing meetings.

This will reduce the need to feedback to governors separately from committee meetings.

The Governing Body agreed to hold the meetings from 3:00-5:00pm, a change of time from previous years, to give consideration to well-being of staff and governors.

Attendance at Governor Meetings has been good for 2016-17. No meetings have had to be cancelled and all have been quorate. Governors who are unable to attend a meeting are expected to send apologies. If Governors do not send apologies for two consecutive meetings, governors can be removed from the governing body.

Future plans for governors 2017-18

Each Year the Governing Body has Key Tasks that they are required to do:

Some of the key duties include:

  • Approval of School Self-Evaluation and School Improvement Plan and review of its progress
  • Review and approval of statutory policies
  • Review external and internal data of pupil outcomes
  • Review of attendance of pupils, staff and governors
  • Agree school budget and staffing structure
  • Review pay of teachers and staff

With the appointment of two new governors, induction of new governors will be a key priority.

Attendance of pupils, particularly families with persistent absenteeism will be an area the school will be working with the governors closely on for 2017-18.

Planned Visits

The governors will focus during their planned visits on:

  • Reading and the introduction of Reading Cafes in the younger years
  • Evaluation the new PSHE curriculum in developing pupils emotional literacy skills and ensuring they are well prepared for life in modern Britain

All Governors should attend relevant training dependent on their role within the governing body.
